vienna – here we are!

[photopress:cmmaskeok.jpg,thumb,alignleft]we survived the swine flu in mexico!!!! incredible, is’nt it? an epidemie coming through especially during all big manifestations of the populaccion civil – no 1.may demonstrations, no big national student demonstrations, no election campaign starting events… No politics in mexico during the crucial period…
I’m working on a video about our adventures! I’ll keep you posted.
Anyhow, we’re back in Vienna… Célia will be performing on 20th of may at kreuzbergs-bar/ 1070 wien – as a guest of freemotion / Edith Lettner’s ethno-jazz group. Come and join us – free entry!

emergency in mexico city

dear friends!
after a great concert in oaxaca with martha toledo, a very political and – fun – interview in the radio universitaria de oaxaca, we were prepared to conqueer mexico city and the festival of Ollin Kan – culturas in resistencia.
but: “Cunde el pánico” “serán 10 dias de emergencia” – pandemia alarm in D.F. – all public events – including the festival of Ollin kan – cancelled, emergency state, all schools closed, the ministery of salud advises not to travel to the capital if not strictly necessary. the situation seems bad. already 70 victims and over 1000 in the hospedals…!!!! but:: money still reigns – flights and busses are connecting the city with the rest of the country… and the rest of the world!
we decided to go south – finding the culturas in resistencia all over the country… we are going to yuchitan, the city of women… and probably further south…

first, célia will be playing in oaxaca with our sister Martha Toledo from juchitan (the city of women // veronika bennholdt thompson). Juchitan has a matriarchal culture, we have to see it!
and then we will participate to the amazing “festival das culturas en resistência! OllinKan 2009″ viva la resistência! viva la liberdad! célias band will be backuped by javier & yocupitzio from los de abajo!
